Miniature Zebu cattle are one of the oldest known cattle breeds, dating back to 6000 BC. They are believed to have originated in India or Sri Lanka, where they are known as "Nadudana", or small cattle. Their distinguishing characteristic is a large hump. They are a hardy breed with a high resistance to disease. A few of these were imported to America in the 1920's. To be classified as miniature their height cannot exceed 42 inches and mature animals will weigh 300 to 600 lbs. Miniature Zebu cattle can be registered with the International Miniature Zebu Association.
